WHY CHOOSE THE DOUBLEDAY INN?

Visitors to Gettysburg will discover a wide variety of excellent lodging accommodations.
We want you to find the perfect match for your stay.

The Doubleday Inn offers the perfect location for experiencing Gettysburg:

We are located directly on the Gettysburg Battlefield. While the entire town and much of the surrounding area can be considered part of the battle grounds, our home is located directly within the Gettysburg National Military Park.

What does this mean for our guests? You are surrounded by history from the moment you arrive. The Union Line is demarcated by the stone wall in our front yard. You can imagine the waves of North Carolinians attacking across the field and towards the Inn. There are 42 monuments within 1⁄4 mile of the Inn, which commemorate the cavalry, infantry & artillery fighting that took place here on the afternoon of July 1, 1863.

You immediately feel the sacredness of this ground and the significance of the events that happened right here. Take in the beautiful views and wide open vistas on land that is virtually unchanged from its 1863 appearance. Enjoy incredible sunsets & sunrises with the Battlefield all to yourself and right at your doorstep.

Enjoy the exceptional peace & quiet as you sleep on the Battlefield. Doubleday Avenue is a Park road. Except for our guests and a few neighbors, traffic stops after 10PM when the Park closes (note there is no curfew and you do not have to be back to the Inn by 10PM). You can actually open the window and enjoy the fresh air and crickets, without the intrusion of noisy trucks, cars and motorcycles.
The Doubleday Inn is only 1 mile from Lincoln Square, the center of town. Close enough to be convenient yet worlds away from all the hustle and bustle, we are the perfect combination of town & country.
Parking is simple at our Inn. No parking garages, no meters to feed and no long flights of stairs to negotiate. Simply park in our large off-street lot right in front of the house and enter through the front door, just like home!
We have ample space to spread out. With almost an acre of land featuring extensive gardens, a deck, a patio and a covered porch, there is space for everyone to relax and unwind. And since we are within the National Park, we have unobstructed views from 3 sides of the house. Enjoy the peaceful setting while taking in the panoramic views of the Battlefield and the town. Birdwatchers will delight at the hummingbirds, blue birds, finches, nuthatches, cardinals, robins, wrens and woodpeckers who frequent our feeders.
Guests receive exceptional & personalized service:
We are both the owners and the innkeepers and we live on-site. We take pride in our home & our work, and strive to provide personalized attention to each guest. We are fortunate to have housekeepers to help with our day to day cleaning, but all other tasks are performed personally by us. From cooking to laundry and gardening to maintenance, you will find our high standards and attention to detail in every facet of our home.
With 9 rooms, our B&B allows us to make innkeeping our full-time profession while still being able to attend to each guest personally. Whether calling to make reservations, checking in or getting dinner recommendations during your stay, you won’t have to deal with anonymous or disinterested “staff”. Here you will get the benefit of a true bed & breakfast experience with interested and knowledgeable hosts.
Having been frequent visitors to Gettysburg for over 12 years prior to purchasing the Inn, we have extensive knowledge about the area. We understand the value of your time and money, and want to help you get the very most out of your Gettysburg vacation. We have great recommendations for everything including how to get around, where to shop, where to eat, etc., and we are happy to make your reservations for you as well.
We know and love the history of this very special area.
Our home is your home during your visit:
We provide clean and comfortable rooms that have been well-appointed with all the comforts of home: custom window treatments with hardwood blinds for total privacy, comfortable beds, soft & cozy linens, fluffy towels, premium bathroom amenities and quiet central heating and air conditioning.
We try to provide convenience in every way with things like WiFi access throughout the Inn, a computer/printer for guest use, a guest refrigerator, a water cooler for filling bottles, an ice machine, garage access for bicycle storage, copies of the Audio Tour to borrow, and a library with hundreds of Civil War titles which you may borrow during your stay.
We cook and bake everything in house (even the cookies!). Our breakfasts feature hearty portions of good old-fashioned country cooking. We alternate between sweet and savory dishes served with either a baked good or breakfast meat. Every plate features an ample portion of fresh fruit. We are happy to accommodate any special dietary needs with advance notice.
Last but certainly not least are our WONDERFUL guests! With visitors from literally every corner of the globe, there is always a warm & friendly bunch here, happy to compare notes and share tidbits that enhance everyone’s visit. Our guests have shown us what a truly small world it is and how much we all have in common.

Finally, we do not strive to be “all things to all people” here at the Doubleday Inn. We welcome children ages 13 and older only and do not allow guest pets so that everyone can enjoy an adult atmosphere of quiet refinement. We do not have televisions so that everyone can relax and enjoy the peace & quiet afforded by this beautiful National Park. We understand that this setting will not suit everyone, and are happy to make a recommendation if you have needs that we are not able to accommodate.

We hope this page has given you an idea of the features that make our bed & breakfast special. The Doubleday Inn has been hosting guests on the Gettysburg Battlefield since 1987, and we are proud to carry on the fine tradition of hospitality that has been established here!
